Grounding, Earthing ~ Nutritionist's Column Vol.45
When we turn our attention to a healthy lifestyle, words like earthing and grounding come up.
The two words are almost synonyms.
This time we will talk about grounding.
Grounding is direct contact between your body and the earth.
It refers to taking off your shoes and socks, going barefoot, and connecting directly with the earth.
It is said that walking barefoot on the grass or on the sandy beach, and living as close to nature as possible, can help recharge your tired mind and body.
This action has been attracting attention, especially in California.
It is said that by touching the earth directly with your bare skin, you can discharge excess electromagnetic waves and static electricity into the ground, and at the same time absorb free electrons from the earth, which is said to stimulate brain and body functions and help you sleep soundly at night.
Free electrons from the earth may sound a little difficult, but it's basically the idea of taking in natural energy into your body.
This is similar to sunbathing.
Sunbathing activates the body by exposing it to sunlight.
Grounding is similar to this, as it is believed that touching the earth has the effect of creating a positive circulation of energy in the body.
Next we'll talk about electromagnetic waves.
I will be talking about how electromagnetic waves, which are now all around us in our daily lives, affect the body.
Electromagnetic waves are also emitted by smartphones, computers, and microwave ovens.
Electromagnetic waves are energy waves that are generated wherever electricity flows, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications defines electromagnetic waves emitted at frequencies below 3 THz as radio waves.
The health effects that are believed to be caused by the electromagnetic waves emitted from smartphones include many symptoms such as sleep disorders, headaches, fatigue, nausea, and stiff shoulders.
Since continued exposure to electromagnetic waves can cause various health problems, grounding and digital detox have been attracting a lot of attention recently.
By distancing yourself from digital devices and detoxifying (excreting) stress and fatigue, you can reduce the invisible stress and side effects such as stiff shoulders and eye strain that come from being constantly bombarded with large amounts of information.
Excessive daily use of digital devices can cause a variety of adverse effects, such as reduced brain function, judgment, motivation, and concentration, and increased forgetfulness, and the resulting stress can create a vicious cycle in which the brain is put under further strain.
For this reason, it is important to understand that maintaining an appropriate distance from smartphones and computers is closely connected to your physical health.
From a medical perspective, reports have been published on the various health benefits of glazing.
For example, it has been reported that increasing the surface charge of red blood cells reduces blood viscosity and aggregation, thereby reducing cardiovascular risk and cardiovascular events.
We can see that the simple act of touching the ground has a very important meaning for our bodies.
When we think about it again, we realize that we live lives that are disconnected from the earth.
However, it won't be easy to go barefoot every day from tomorrow onwards.
Here are some specific methods for grounding:
Why not try doing it once a week, or if that's difficult, even once every two weeks, so that it fits into your living environment and lifestyle?
■ Walking barefoot on the grass or sand in the morning sun ■ Lying down or taking a nap on the grass in a park or other place ■ Swimming in the ocean or dipping in seawater ■ Dipping barefoot in the water of a river or lake ■ Planting flowers or trees with your bare hands or working in the fields
I'm sure it will help you relax and detox, and bring about changes in your mood and physical condition.
It is also very pleasant to go into a farm or rice paddy and touch the soil with bare feet and bare hands, so it is also recommended to ground yourself through agricultural experiences.
Also, eating crops grown in those fields can help you feel connected to the earth and may help maintain your health.
Also, in the sense of enjoying nature as it is, it is recommended to eat the fruit without peeling it when cooking.
The skin of fruits and vegetables contains a lot of nutrients.
The skin contains antioxidants that increase when exposed to sunlight, as well as vitamins and other substances that give the fruit its bitterness and aroma.
Conversely, the skin is a place where pesticides are relatively likely to adhere.
By making an effort to eat the skin as well, it is possible that you will begin to prefer organic vegetables and fruits that have been produced by visible producers when you eat them on a daily basis.
One of the benefits you can expect is that being conscious of your diet will lead to changes in your eating habits, which will lead to a clean and healthy body.
Whenever possible, do not peel vegetables and use the leaves and roots as well.
When it comes to fish, eat whole small fish rather than fillets.
Eat unrefined brown rice rather than white rice.
I believe that being conscious of "eating in a way that connects us to the earth," starting with grounding, will lead to the idea of whole foods, which will not only make you happy but also the earth.
The modern world is said to be a stressful society.
Why not try changing the way you relate to your body and mind through grounding?
I'm sure it will have a positive effect on you like you've never experienced before.
