About the Paleo Diet (Paleolithic Diet) ~ Nutritionist's Column Vol.30

The paleo diet has been a hot topic among international celebrities in New York and other places for the past few years, and the number of people practicing it on a daily basis has been rapidly increasing.

Paleo is evolving into a major movement overseas, with cafes offering menus specifically tailored to the paleo diet appearing.

"Paleo" is an abbreviation of Paleolithic, which means a dietary method that incorporates the hunter-gatherer diet before the start of agriculture. In English, it is also called the "hunter gatherer diet" or "caveman diet."

It is difficult to imagine what the diet of the Paleolithic era was like, that is, the hunter-gatherer diet before the start of agriculture, but it is believed that people lived in nature, eating wild nuts, edible wild plants, vegetables, and fruit, as well as hunting for fish and animal meat, and survived by hunting and gathering.

Why did you decide to adopt a diet for this era?

The answer seems to be based on the idea that the lifestyle habits of modern people who suffer from various illnesses and disorders are caused by a shift to a diet high in carbohydrates and full of processed foods, and goes back to the Paleolithic era to recreate a diet that incorporates as many natural foods as possible in their natural state in order to become healthy!

Natural sources include vegetables, nuts, wild mushrooms, fruits, grass-fed meat, wild fish, shellfish, eggs, natural sweeteners, unrefined rock salt, and fruit oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil.

On the other hand, foods that were developed after the start of agriculture, such as grains like rice, wheat, oats, and barley, beans, dairy products, processed foods, sweets, seasonings, refined sugar, and artificial sweeteners, are not considered natural, and foods that hunter-gatherer peoples would not have eaten at the time are foods that should be avoided.

In the Paleolithic diet, where people ate raw, unrefined or processed ingredients, people chewed their food well, digested it properly, and felt full more quickly. As a result, they took in fewer calories, which may have led to more people having slender bodies.
This makes sense, as we've never seen any fat cavemen in history textbooks.

People who have actually tried the Paleo diet say they've slimmed down, but there are also people who say they've not only lost weight but also become healthier, such as by relieving constipation or following a dietary regimen to prevent high blood pressure.

In fact, the paleo diet is being praised overseas as well, with claims that it can assist with weight loss and reduce the risk of certain health conditions, such as heart disease, obesity and diabetes, by not eating foods that have been around since agricultural times.

Okay, so if you're thinking about starting the Paleo diet, there are a few things to keep in mind before you start.

First of all, it is said that people with weak stomachs should avoid it.
Also, if you reduce carbohydrates too much, you may experience a lack of energy and feel drowsy or lethargic, so at that time it is also necessary to consume sugar such as from fruit.

In New York, the following announcement was made as a precaution for those following the paleo diet:
"Not everyone should start a paleo diet, and children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with chronic illnesses such as inflammatory bowel disease should consult with their doctor before trying it," she says.
"People following the Paleo diet need to drink lots of water.

Some people on this diet drink black coffee or green tea, but avoid drinks with added natural sugar or artificial sweeteners. It is very important to pay attention to the precautions when adopting a new diet, and to live a lifestyle that also includes regular exercise and good quality sleep.

For those who can't imagine what the meal entails.
